overview
Gender segregation by occupation is the tendency for men and women to be employed in different fields. Occupational segregation is caused by gender bias based on stereotypical, biological and social differences between the two. Nothing frustrates me more than a firefighter or a male in general, that believes women don’t belong in the fire service. Now, I am certainly not a feminist. I don’t believe women are better than men at everything. I don’t believe that women should be held in a higher regard then men. However, I do believe that I am equal to my male counterparts, and it seriously aggravates me when I have to deal with such discrimination. I had to endure all the same tests in the fire academy, as all of the men. I graduated paramedic school, just like the men. So why do I constantly have to prove myself? This is an ongoing frustrating battle, and all my sisters can probably relate.
